Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Saint Joseph’s

Colonials improve to 6-0-1 in conference play
WASHINGTON – On a windy afternoon at the GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus, the George Washington women's soccer team made its return to its home turf in style, shutting out Saint Joseph's, 2-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• 47th Minute – After a back-and-forth battle for the entirety of the first half, the Colonials came out hot in the second with a quick strike by Sofia Pavon. GW drew a foul right outside of the box, giving Pavon the opportunity to fire off a one-timer into the upper left hand corner of the net. GW 1, SJU 0
• 79th Minute – GW was able to pad its lead with a goal from Megan McCormick. A corner for the Colonials caused a scramble in front of the net, giving Hannah Zaluski the chance to weave around the Hawks' back line and shoot the ball from two yards outside the box. McCormick positioned herself parallel to the goal line and was able to head it in to bring GW's total to two. GW 2, SJU 0
NOTEWORTHY
• Keeper Tamaki Machi was able to fend off the Hawks and finished the day with six saves, while Saint Joseph's keeper Cameron Perrott made eight of her own.
• GW held Saint Joseph's to just two shots in the game's second stanza and held a 17-11 advantage on the day.
• Ten of the Colonials' 17 shots went on goal.
• McCormick's goal marks her career-high fifth of the season. The three-year captain leads all defenders with 10 points this season.
• The Colonials' shutout marks their third clean sheet of the season and second in conference play.
• With the victory, the Buff and Blue improve to 6-0-2 when playing at the GW Soccer Field.
