Colonials to wrap up weekend at West Virginia with Kent State on Sunday

PITTSBURGH – In its first road meet of the 2019 season, the George Washington gymnastics team had season-high performances on all four events, but fell in a dual meet at Pittsburgh, 195.175 to 194.625, on Saturday afternoon.
GW (2-2, 0-2 EAGL) earned its 194.625 behind team scores of 48.675 on vault, 48.200 on bars, 48.825 on beam, and 48.925 on floor.
Fifth-year co-captain Alex Zois took the all-around title for the second time this season with her 38.925, while four other Colonials hit career-highs during Saturday's meet.
ROTATION ONE
The Colonials started their afternoon off on bars, where the team tallied a score of 48.200. First-year Olivia Raymond led the way with a 9.675, while fellow first-year Simone Banen and Zois followed closely behind with matching 9.650s. Hannah Cohen and Anna Warhol added season-high scores of 9.625 and 9.600, respectively, to round out the Colonials score.
ROTATION TWO
GW then headed to vault, where it posted a season-high score of 48.675. Cydney Crasa paced the Buff and Blue with her season-high 9.800, a mark that earned her first on the podium, while Warhol posted a 9.775 to finish tied for third. Chloe Vitoff, in her second-ever appearance in the event, finished with a career-high 9.750 after scoring a 9.425 in her debut at the Lindsey Ferris Invitational. Senior co-captain Julia McLaughlin finished with a 9.700 while Zois and first-year Olivia Zona earned matching 9.650s to add to the GW score.
ROTATION THREE
The Colonials next turned their attention to floor, where they had their best event of the day, finishing with a season-high score of 48.925. Zona took home the floor title with her season-high 9.850 and was joined on the podium by Crasa, who finished second with a 9.825. Zois also had a solid performance for GW, registering a 9.775, while Katya Karpova (9.750) and Rachel Kaplan (9.725) rounded out the GW total.
ROTATION FOUR
GW closed its afternoon on beam, totaling 48.825. Zois finished the day at the top of the podium with a season-high 9.850, while fellow fifth-year Brooke Bray matched her career-high with a 9.775. Karpova also reached a career milestone with a personal-best score of 9.750. Raymond also posted a 9.750 and Banen tallied a 9.700 to close out the competition.
LOOK AHEAD: The Colonials will now turn their attention to Sunday, when they compete in tri-meet action at West Virginia with Kent State a 2 p.m.
