Colonials travel to St. Bonaventure on Sunday
WASHINGTON – On a rainy afternoon at the GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus, the George Washington women's soccer team fell to George Mason, 2-0. Despite outshooting the Patriots, 22-11, the Colonials could not find the back of the net, as the team dropped its first match at home in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• 33rd Minute – George Mason was able to break the deadlock when leading scorer Emma van der Vorst passed the ball to Emily Littell, who shot the ball just out of the reach of keeper Anna Tapen.
• 41st Minute – The Patriots padded their lead with a tally from van de Vorst, her eighth goal in as many games. The first-year from the Netherlands broke the Mason program record for goals in consecutive games in today's match.
NOTEWORTHY
• GW led 12-8 in shots at the half and went on to hold a 22-11 advantage at the conclusion of the match.
• First-year Maria Pareja paced the squad with six shots, while Sofia Pavon and Kelly Amador followed closely behind with five each. Mia Barreda also added a trio of shots, Natalie Silberman had a pair, and Dani Frese recorded a lone shot on net.
• Anya Heijst and Beth Ellinport saw time as Colonials' substitutes and logged 56 and 24 minutes, respectively.
