Colonials host doubleheader Saturday at Smith Center Pool
George Washington men's water polo has three more Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference games on the schedule this weekend, including a home doubleheader Saturday.
After traveling to Johns Hopkins on Friday night, the 20th-ranked Colonials welcome La Salle (10 a.m.) and No. 15 Bucknell (2 p.m.) to Charles E. Smith Center Pool on Saturday. Both home contests will be streamed via Facebook Live.
LAST TIME OUT: GW (10-4, 2-1 MAWPC) won two out of three on the road to begin conference play last weekend. The Colonials picked up wins at La Salle and Fordham around a loss at Wagner.
Atakan Destici (39 goals, 26 assists) continues to lead the Colonials. The junior from Turkey piled up 10 goals and seven steals over the three games, highlighted by a five-goal effort in the 14-7 win over Fordham to close the weekend.
CAREER YEAR: Jack Kerwin has his final season in Buff and Blue off to a great start. The senior from Connecticut has already set a career high with his 20 goals through 14 games, eclipsing his 17 goals as a first-year in 2015. He set a career high with four goals in Sunday's win over Fordham.
Kerwin has now scored in six straight games and eight of the past nine contests. He's also added seven assists, 13 steals and 10 ejections drawn on the season.
SCOUTING JOHNS HOPKINS: The Blue Jays (3-3) are ranked No. 3 in the latest CWPA Division III poll, boosted by Jayden Kunwar, who has a team-high 19 goals through six games.
This the MAWPC opener for Johns Hopkins, which has been off since Sept. 8.
SCOUTING LA SALLE: The Explorers (2-11, 0-3) are in their first season as members of the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference East Division.
GW has racked up 44 total goals in two comfortable victories over La Salle this season, including a 21-10 victory in Philadelphia last weekend in which 12 different Colonials scored.
SCOUTING BUCKNELL: The Bison (8-1, 2-0) bring an unblemished MAWPC record into Saturday's contest. Their lone loss this season came by one goal to No. 11 Pepperdine on Sept. 2.
Rade Joksimovic, a two-time MAWPC Player of the Year, has already recorded 41 goals and 31 assists through nine games.
COMING UP: GW heads to Bucknell next Sunday for a 12 p.m. start before returning home the following weekend for non-conference home dates with Austin College (Oct. 12, 6 p.m.) and Connecticut College (Oct. 14, 7 p.m.).
