Water Polo Starts 2026 at UC Irvine Invitational

GW water polo kicks off its 2026 season this week with four games in Irvine, Calif., facing off against Biola (Friday, 1:20 p.m. ET), No. 13 (T) UC Irvine (Friday, 5:20 p.m. ET), No. 3 (D-III) Redlands (Saturday, 1:20 p.m. ET) and No. 16 Loyola Marymount (Saturday, 6:20 p.m. ET). The Revolutionaries received one vote in the national preseason poll, as GW returns 15 student-athletes from its 2025 MAWPC Championship runner-up team. The Revolutionaries completed its roster with the addition of Solt Horvath and Konstantinos Kapragkos.
GW also completed its coaching staff with former NCAA Champion and UCLA alum Cameron Reagan, and with GW water polo alum and MAWPC All-Tournament First Team selection Vasilije Marinkovic.
The Revolutionaries are set to face two ranked opponents on opening weekend, as both UC Irvine and Loyola Marymount come in with top-20 rankings. UC Irvine was picked to finish second in the Big West Conference preseason poll after finishing 2025 at 15-12, while LMU placed fifth of eight in the West Coast Conference preseason poll following their 13-12 2025 campaign. GW last met LMU in 2023, falling to the Lions 9-7, while this will be GW's first-ever meeting vs. UC Irvine.
Biola, out of the Western Water Polo Conference, finished last season at 10-21, reaching the WWPC championship match before falling to Concordia. This is GW's second all-time meeting vs. Biola, and first since GW's 15-9 victory in 2022.
Redlands enters play as the third-ranked team in Division III water polo. The Bulldogs were 10-19 last season, and were eliminated from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. GW is 1-1 all-time vs. Redlands.
