Colonials face Highlanders on Saturday
George Washington men's soccer heads back on the road Saturday to meet NJIT for a 2:30 p.m. start at Rutgers-Newark's Frederick Douglass Field in Newark, N.J.
It's the third straight road game for the Colonials after playing three in a row at GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus to open the season.
LAST TIME OUT: GW (2-3) looks to get back on the winning track after losing a pair of road contests last weekend. Joshua Yurasits scored his first career goal last Friday, but the Colonials fell to Brown, 2-1, in overtime. Two days later, they dropped a 1-0 decision at Providence.
EFFICIENT OFFENSE: Yurasits turned his first shot attempt of the season into his first career goal, sliding to put home a cross from Oscar Haynes Brown in the 74th minute against Brown. The sophomore defender ranks second among Colonials with five points, already three more than he had during his first season in Buff and Blue. With three assists, he ranks tied for second in the Atlantic 10.
IMPRESSIVE COMPANY: With seven goals and 16 points through five games, Haynes Brown remains among the national offensive leaders. The sophomore from England ranked second in the nation in goals and points per game through Tuesday behind only Denver's Andre Shinyashiki, who has eight goals and 17 points in five games.
SCOUTING NJIT: The Highlanders, who are members of the Sun Belt Conference, are 5-1 after Wednesday's 1-0 road win over Saint Francis Brooklyn. Pablo Jimenez scored the game's lone goal in the 65th minute.
Rene White has scored six of NJIT's nine goals so far, while goalkeeper Victor Pujades has a 0.82 goals against average, including three shutouts.
GW beat NJIT, 1-0, in D.C. last season for its first win in four tries in the series. Brady O'Connor converted a penalty kick in the 52nd minute, and Thor Arne Höfs posted seven saves to earn the shutout.
COMING UP: GW returns home Tuesday, welcoming Binghamton to the Mount Vernon Campus for a 2 p.m. start. The Colonials then have a week to prepare for their matchup at No. 10 Duke.
WATCH THIS: Hear from head coach Craig Jones, Yurasits and Grant Barrientos before the matchup with NJIT.
