Former All-American goalkeeper joins Colonials for 2018-19
WASHINGTON – Kevin Le Vine has joined the George Washington water polo staff as an assistant coach working with both the men's and women's squads, head coach Barry King announced Tuesday.
Le Vine comes to Foggy Bottom after an All-American collegiate career as a goalkeeper at California, where he won a national title with the Golden Bears in 2016. Most recently, he served as an assistant coach with Contra Costa United Water Polo, working with the club's keepers and helping with its U-16 and U-18 Junior Olympic squads.
"I'm really excited to have Kevin join us at GW," King said. "His experience at the highest levels of the collegiate game is a tremendous asset to our program. He's been where we want to go, and his energy and enthusiasm will make a difference as we continue to build toward that goal moving forward."
After being part of a national championship club as a junior, Le Vine took over starting duties in net as a senior and earned ACWPC honorable mention All-American honors last fall.
The California native was named All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation honorable mention and Cal's Most Improved Player after averaging 11.49 saves per game and helping the Bears advance to the national semifinals. He also finished the season with 31 steals and 22 assists in 71 quarters played.
"I'm extremely honored to be a part of this program," Le Vine said. "Barry has made a great change in his first year at GW, and I'm looking forward to contributing to the continued growth here in any way that I can. I can already tell that this group has great potential, and I'm excited to see what the season holds for us."
Le Vine also enjoyed a decorated youth career, garnering club All-American honors five times from 2009 to 2013. The goalkeeper was a member of the U.S. Youth National Team in 2010 and 2012. He finished his prep career at Granite Hills High School ranked third in California Interscholastic Federation history in saves.
