Colonials return four starters from tournament team in 2017
WASHINGTON - GW Volleyball is projected to return to the A-10 Tournament for the second straight year, according to a preseason poll of the league's coaches that was announced Wednesday. Coach Sarah Bernson's squad was picked to finish fifth of 10 teams in the league.
The top six teams at the end of the regular season will qualify for the conference championship, held this year in Richmond, Va. from Nov. 16-18 at VCU's Siegel Center. The Colonials entered last year's tournament as the No. 6 seed and advanced to the semifinal round after an upset of No. 3 seed Saint Louis in five sets.
VCU was picked to win the league, garnering all 10 first-place votes. Dayton was the unanimous second-place selection, followed by Saint Louis, Duquesne, and GW. Rhode Island was picked to finish sixth with Fordham, Davidson, La Salle, and George Mason rounding out the poll.
The Colonials ignite the 2018 campaign on Friday night with the opening game of the DC Challenge at Howard. First serve is set for 7 p.m. GW then hosts American on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. to open the home slate and wrap up the first weekend.
