Colonials open the season Sept. 10-11 at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational
WASHINGTON – The GW men's golf team on Friday announced its 2018-19 schedule, which features trips to Hawaii and Stanford along with several tournaments that have become stalwarts on GW's slate.
"I'm extremely excited about our schedule for this year," said head coach Chuck Scheinost. "We have a young team, and our schedule allows everyone the chance to get four-to-five tournament starts which will be valuable as we gain experience. I also feel there is a great blend of tournaments, ones that will push us against the top teams in the country and ones which will allow us to put ourselves in contention to win."
The Colonials open the season at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational Sept. 10-11, returning to a course where rising senior Logan Lowe shot a then-school record 65 as a sophomore in 2016. A week later, they'll return to Richmond, Virginia to play in the VCU Janney Invitational for the third consecutive season.
In October, GW will play in the Denver Paintrbrush Invitational (Oct. 8-9) before teeing it up in the Elon Invitational (Oct. 15-16) for the third straight year. Last season, the Colonials took third place as a team with a school record for low tournament score with a three-day total of 854 (+2). Both Lowe (T-4th) and rising junior Adrian Castagnola (T-6th) recorded top-10 finishes, and Lowe also took T-6th in 2016.
GW closes its fall slate in style with a trip to the Aloha State for the Hawaii Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational from Nov. 2-4, a tournament which routinely features one of the most competitive fields of the season.
In the spring, the Colonials will play host to the Atlantic 10 Match Play Championship (Feb. 18-19) at Weston Hills Country Club in Miami, Florida, and return to the Bash at the Beach Invitational (March 11-12) in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Colonials last competed in the event during the 2016-17 season, when Lowe captured his first collegiate victory to help propel GW to a second-place finish as a team.
GW will compete in two tournaments for the first time to close its regular season slate: the Stanford Wally Goodwin Invitational (March 28-30) and the Bayou City Collegiate Classic (April 15-16) in Houston, Texas.
The Atlantic 10 Championship returns to Grand Cypress Golf Club in Orlando, Florida, for the fourth consecutive season. The three-day event is set for April 26-28.
