2018 Schedule
WASHINGTON - Eight home games and a trip to California highlight the 2018 George Washington men's water polo schedule, which head coach Barry King announced Wednesday.
The Colonials head into the fall looking to earn a repeat Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference title after winning their first conference championship and advancing to the NCAA Tournament last season. They were one of eight teams that qualified for the national tournament in 2017 before closing with a No. 17 national ranking and their most wins in nearly two decades (17)."We are really looking forward to playing this schedule as we build off of our championship momentum from 2017," King said. "We will play great competition from the beginning and look to improve our level of play throughout. As always, our goal is to be playing our best water polo in November and to win a conference championship."
GW kicks off the season with three weekend tournaments to get ready for MAWPC play, beginning with the Navy Open on Sept. 1-2. The Colonials then head to the Princeton Invitational (Sept. 8-9) and the Aggie Shootout at UC-Davis (Sept. 14-16).
The 12-game MAWPC schedule begins in New York on Sept. 22 with a split road doubleheader against Fordham and Wagner. The nightcap is a rematch of last season's conference tournament final, won by GW, 8-5.
After MAWPC road games at La Salle (Sept. 23) and Johns Hopkins (Sept. 28), the Colonials begin a stretch in which they play five of six games at Charles E. Smith Center Pool, including home conference contests against Bucknell (Sept. 29) and Navy (Oct. 19).
GW heads back to New Jersey for the Princeton Select on Nov. 2-3 before returning to Foggy Bottom for a MAWPC doubleheader against Fordham and Wagner on Nov. 4.
The Colonials are set to celebrate Senior Day on Nov. 10, hosting Johns Hopkins at 11 a.m. They finish the doubleheader and the regular season later that night at Navy.
The 2018 MAWPC Championship will be held from Nov. 16-18 at Fordham's Messmore Aquatic Center.
