ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. â€" After dropping only its second contest of the 2018 season on Thursday, the George Washington lacrosse team bounced back in dominant fashion on Saturday afternoon, cruising past St. Bonaventure, 14-3, at Marra Athletics Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Colonials made the first strike on net, with sophomore Caroline Kiernan finding senior co-captain Jocelyn Donohue to put GW up by one just 17 seconds into play. Two minutes later, the Buff and Blue found the back of the net again, with sophomore Aidan Cage scoring her fifth goal of the season off of a feed from freshman Ioanna Mantzouratos. The Bonnies responded with a pair of their own, before GW began to surge on attack with a 5-0 run. In that span, Camaryn Kerns made two tallies while Donohue, Kiernan, and Mantzouratos scored one goal apiece. St. Bonaventure found the back of the net one more time, but GW held the 7-3 advantage going into the break.
The rest of the game was all GW, with the Buff and Blue defense holding the Bonnies scoreless in the game's second stanza. Donohue started the Colonials' 7-0 run, completing her sixth hat trick of the season at the 20:26 mark. GW continued to press on the offensive end, with Mantzouratos making back-to-back tallies, just 52 seconds apart, before McDonnell made her first strike of the game. The Colonials went on to score three more times to cement the 14-3 decision.
