OPENING DRAW: The George Washington lacrosse squad will return to home to host Mount St. Mary's at the GW Lacrosse Field on the Mount Vernon Campus for a 1:00 p.m. bout on Saturday.
LAST TIME OUT: In the short trip across town to American on Wednesday afternoon, the Colonials (5-1) pulled through with a 14-11 victory to edge their D.C. rival and record their third straight victory for the first time since 2013. GW held the advantage in ground balls (21-14) and draw controls (14-13) and was even with the Eagles with 28 shots.
SPREADING THE WEALTH: Eight Colonials found the back of the net on Wednesday at American. Sophomore Morgan McDonnell led the squad with her first career hat trick, scoring three of her career-high four goals in the first half. Senior co-captain Jocelyn Donohue finished the day with a trio of goals, while Ioanna Mantzouratos added a pair and Brooke Sands, Camaryn Kerns, Caroline Kiernan, Katie Quinn, and Abby Carlin tallied one apiece. For Carlin, the goal marked the first of her career.
HELPING HAND: The Colonials rank 15th in the nation and second in the Atlantic 10 with 6.4 assists per game. Sands leads the way with 10 helpers on the season, while Mantzouratos sits second with six of her own. The Buff and Blue tallied a season-high 11 assists at Longwood, while the Lancers only recorded three, and hold a 37-18 advantage through their first six games.
RISING TO THE OCCASION: Freshman keeper Jenna Oler has established herself as the Colonials' mainstay between the pipes and ranks second in both the nation and conference with a .610 save percentage. The netminder also boasts a 7.87 Goals-Against Average (GAA), a mark that ranks fourth nationally and second in the A-10.
ACING FROM THE ARC: GW continued its dominance at the free-position on Wednesday, scoring on 5-of-7 chances while the opposing Eagles were only able to find the back of the net on 4-of-7 chances. The Colonials have registered 24-of-43 (.558 pct.) from the free-position while their opponents have only recorded a tally on 15-of-38 (.395 pct.) chances. Kerns has gone 7-of-10 from the arc this season to lead the team and rank first in the conference.
LAST WE MET: The Colonials edged Mount St. Mary's, 9-8, back in 2016. GW applied offensive pressure early in the contest, scoring five of its nine goals in less than 10 minutes.
