Colonials set to host eight games at home
2019 Schedule
WASHINGTON- The George Washington lacrosse team is set to host nine opponents in 2019 and face eight more on the road during a 17-match schedule this spring, fifth-year head coach Tracy Coyne announced on Friday.
"We are excited for the 2019 season to begin," said Coyne. "Even though there were so many positives about 2018 – it still stings that we didn't make the A-10 tournament. We know there is still a lot of work to be done in the preseason, but we are looking forward the opportunity to play against great competition. This group thrives on challenges and they are ready to prove to everyone that we have what it takes. Fall ball went well so it puts us in a good position to recognize and fine tune our weaknesses and build on our strengths."
GW opens its 2019 campaign on Feb. 16 with a trip to Farmville, Virginia to face Longwood for the third consecutive season. The Colonials will then open up their home slate with a three-game homestand, welcoming East Carolina (Feb. 22), Radford (Feb. 24), and California (March 1) to the GW Lacrosse Field on the Mount Vernon Campus.
The Buff and Blue will then make the short trip down the road to face local-foe Georgetown on March 5 before hosting Robert Morris at the Vern on March 9. GW will close out its non-conference slate with bouts at Mount St. Mary's (March 13) and against Monmouth (March 16).
GW opens Atlantic 10 action with back-to-back contests on the road, first traveling to Philadelphia to face La Salle on March 22 before making the trip down to North Carolina to face Davidson on March 24.
The Colonials will get their first taste of A-10 play at home on March 29 against St. Bonaventure.
The Buff and Blue will also host Richmond (March 31), VCU (April 7) and Duquesne (April 12), and will travel to Saint Joseph's (April 5), George Mason (April 14), and Massachusetts (April 20).
"We return the most experienced and talented group of student-athletes since I've been coaching here," said Coyne. "With nine returning starters, a core nucleus of players with significant minutes in big games, and a very talented first-year class, we believe that if we continue to stay focused and play as a cohesive unit, the 2019 season will be one of the best in the program's history."
