Volleyball Falls in Four to Fordham

De Carvalho Peixe makes career debut, records four kills
WASHINGTON – GW Volleyball was unable to overcome a hot-hitting Fordham squad on Saturday night at the Smith Center, falling in four sets. Both the Colonials (8-8, 2-3) and Rams (9-9, 2-3) end up with weekend splits.
Fordham 3, GW 1 (12-25, 16-25, 25-22, 15-25)
Key Stats
• Fordham was impressive on the attack, committing just eight errors in the match and hitting an opponent season-high .356.
• GW hit .148 as a team and was led by juniors Skylar Iott (12 kills, 11 digs) and Jordan Young (10).
• First-year Daria De Carvalho Peixe appeared in her first career match and made an immediate impact, recording four kills in eight attempts.
• GW had five service aces in the match, with two each from senior Alexis Lete and first-year Bella Bowman.
How it Happened
Set 1: Fordham 25, GW 12
• The Rams got off to a blistering start, hitting an impressive .469 with just one attack error in the opening set.
• Fordham led wire-to-wire in the stanza despite a clean attacking set from Iott (4k-0e-12a).
Set 2: Fordham 25, GW 16
• The story remained the same in set two as the Rams hit .447 with only two attacking miscues and never relinquished the lead.
• GW hit a respectable .237, but were unable to catch up to Fordham's attack.
Set 3: GW 25, Fordham 22
• The Colonials responded after intermission with their best set of the night, aided by three kills from De Carvalho Peixe.
• With the set squared at 22, GW ran off three straight points featuring consecutive kills from Young to force the match to a fourth set.
Set 4: Fordham 25, GW 15
• Fordham returned to its strong attacking ways to finish off the match. After an early back-and-forth had the set even at 6-6, the Rams ran off a 7-1 spurt and didn't look back to finish off the triumph.
