Women’s Soccer Set for Pair of A-10 Matchups

Colonials travel to Duquesne on Thursday, host Richmond on Sunday
KICKING OFF: The George Washington women's soccer squad will head to Pittsburgh to face Duquesne on Thursday at 7 p.m. before returning home to host Richmond at the GW Soccer Field at the Mount Vernon Campus for their breast cancer awareness game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: The Colonials (6-5-1) edged St. Bonaventure, 2-1, on the road on Sunday afternoon. Despite owning an 11-4 advantage in shots at the half, the Buff and Blue were down by one at the break. The squad then saw a second half surge, lead by senior forward Sofia Pavon, who gave the Colonials both their tallies in a four minute span to secure the GW victory.
SHARP SHOOTERS: GW held a 22-8 (13-3 SOG) shots advantage over St. Bonaventure on Sunday and is outshooting its opponents 175-136 this season. Pavon paces the squad with 33 shots in 2018 and registered a game- and season-high eight, seven of which came on goal, against the Bonnies. First-year Maria Pareja has also been strong for the Colonials on attack and sits second on the squad with 26 shots on the season. The Fairfax, Virginia, native, has also started eight contests and recorded one goal against Rhode Island in GW's A-10 opener.
POWER FROM PAVON: With her two tallies on Sunday, Pavon is tied for the team lead with nine points (3g, 3a). The Chicago, Illinois, native has started all 12 matches and has played a combined 771 minutes, a mark that ranks fifth amongst offensive players.
OCTOBER HUNTING: The Colonials sit tied-for-sixth in the conference with their 6-5-1 record and even 2-2 mark in A-10 play. GW is slated to face six more A-10 teams to close out the regular season, including four teams that currently sit below them in the standings. The top eight squads will advance to the A-10 Tournament.
ABOUT DUQUESNE: The Dukes (5-5-1, 1-2-1 A-10) split their weekend matches, edging La Salle, 3-2, in overtime on Thursday before falling to VCU, 2-1, on Sunday. Abby Losco paces the team with nine points (3g, 3a), while Kyra Murphy leads the squad in goal with 46 saves and 1.31 GAA. The Colonials hold a 9-8-3 edge in the series history.
