Sofia Pavon records third straight goal to lift the Colonials, 1-0
PITTSBURGH – The George Washington women's soccer team picked up its second straight victory with a 1-0 win over Duquesne on Thursday evening at Rooney Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• 58th Minute – After owning a 7-5 shots advantage at the half, and dishing off six additional shots in the first 13 minutes of play in the game's second stanza, the Colonials were able to break the deadlock with a goal from Sofia Pavon. Pavon took a pass from Kelly Amador and shot the ball just out of the reach of the Duke's keeper. (GW 1, DUQ 0)
NOTEWORHTY
• Pavon put the Buff and Blue on the board with her third goal in as many games and fourth tally of 2018. With her goal at the 58th minute, the senior takes sole possession as the Colonials' leading scorer with 11 points (4g, 3a).
• Amador's assist on Pavon's goal marked her first point of the season. The sophomore has also recorded 19 shots and started all 13 contests in 2018.
• Anya Heijst made her first career start against the Dukes, logging 87 minutes.
• Both squads rattled off 14 shots, but GW edged Duquesne, 6-5, in shots on goal.
• With tonight's victory, the Colonials improve to 10-8-3 in the series history.
