Womens Tennis’ Siopacha and Bayraktoglu Compete at Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Tennis Championships

Colonial duo pushes both doubles matches to the tiebreaker
MALIBU, Calif. – George Washington women's tennis' Maria Siopacha and Melis Bayraktaroglu represented the Colonials at the 2018 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Tennis Championships over the weekend.
For the 34th consecutive year, the 2018 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Tennis Championships invited the nation's top Division I women's players to compete for the All-American national title.
Siopacha first competed in the singles prequalifying draw before teaming up with Bayraktaroglu for the prequalifying draw of doubles.
In solo action, Siopacha put up a fight, pushing her match to extra points against Ling Huang from Rice, 6-2, 7-6(4). The senior then closed out singles play in the consolation bracket against Florida State's Nandini Das, but fell 6-2, 6-4.
In the doubles bracket, Siopacha and Bayraktaroglu battled in their first match against the LSU pair of Anna Loughlan and Kennan Johnson. The Buff and Blue duo was neck-and-neck with their SEC opponent, pushing the match to the tiebreaker, but just fell short, 8-7(5).
The pair also pushed their consolation match against Florida State's Andrea Garcia and Julia Mikulski to the tiebreaker, but again were just topped, 8-7(2).
