Men's Water Polo Splits Pair

PRINCETON, N.J. - George Washington men's water polo split a pair of games Friday to begin the Princeton Invitational at DeNunzio Pool.
The 17th-ranked Colonials were beaten by No. 4 UCLA, 20-4, to start the day before rebounding to drop Iona, 18-11.
Andras Levai paced the offense with a combined six goals, including four in the victory over Iona. Andrew Mavis scored a team-high five goals in the nightcap.
GW (4-1) closes the event Saturday, facing a pair of ranked foes. The Buff and Blue will meet No. 10 Harvard at 10 a.m. before finishing against No. 14 Brown at 6:45 p.m.
UCLA 20, GW 4: The Bruins pulled away with nine straight goals between the second and third quarters to hand the Colonials their first loss of the season. Levai scored two second-half goals for GW with Kerim Sismanoglu and Atakan Destici adding the other scores.
Matt Farmer and Max Irvine scored four goals apiece to pace UCLA (4-0).

GW 18, Iona 11: The Colonials got back on track thanks to a big second quarter. They reeled off five consecutive goals over the final four minutes, three seconds of the opening half to take control.
Levai started the burst with a goal to extend GW's lead to 9-6. The run ended with an Andrew Mavis score about three minutes later that pushed the lead to seven. The Gaels (2-4) never pulled closer than five goals the rest of the way.
Seven different Colonials scored in all with Destici and Sismanoglu chipping in three goals apiece.
