PITTSBURGH - The GW volleyball team concluded its opening weekend of Atlantic 10 play on Sunday afternoon with a 3-1 loss to Duquesne at the AJ Palumbo Center.
PITTSBURGH - The GW volleyball team concluded its opening weekend of Atlantic 10 play on Sunday afternoon with a 3-1 loss to Duquesne at the AJ Palumbo Center.
Key Stats
- Senior Aaliya Davidson led the Colonials for the second time this weekend with a team-high 12 kills. She swung .296 on the afternoon with four digs, three blocks and a service ace.
- Sophomore Jordan Young totaled eight kills, while the trio of senior Kristel Moor, junior Kelsey Clark and freshman Marianna Warren all registered seven winners apiece.
- Sophomore Jaimeson Lee finished with 31 assists, six digs and three block assists.
- Duquesne hit .225 (50k-23e-120a) in the match, while the Colonials combined to swing .190 (47k-24e-121a).
- GW committed nine service errors in the match.
Set 1: Duquesne 25, GW 17
- Duquesne got off to a hot start, hitting .560 in the first set with just two errors over 25 attacks.
- The Dukes started the set on a 7-0 run and did not trail en route to the win.
- GW used an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to three points at 14-11 but were unable to overcome the Dukes.
Set 2: GW 25, Duquesne 21
- GW hit a match-high .296 (13k-5e-27a) in the second set while limiting Duquesne to just .100 (11k-8e-30a).
- The Colonials broke an early 4-4 tie with four straight points to open an 8-4 lead.
- Duquesne answered with four in a row to tie the set again at 8-8.
- The score was close until GW broke a 15-15 tie with two straight points to pull ahead, 17-15 and didn't look back down the stretch to tie the match at 1-1.
Set 3: Duquesne 25, GW 16
- Duquesne started the third set on a 5-1 run and did not allow the Colonials within two points of the lead on the way to a 25-16 win.
Set 4: Duquesne 25, GW 23
- GW outhit Duquesne, .143-.091, in the fourth set but the Dukes still emerged victorious, 25-23.
- The Colonials erased a seven-point deficit in the early portion of the set to battle within one point of the lead at 24-23, but a service error clinched the match for the Dukes.

- GW will continue its extended road swing with visits to Rhode Island (Fri., 7 p.m.) and Fordham (Sun., 1 p.m.) next weekend.
