LEWISBURG, Pa. - George Washington men's water polo fell, 16-11, to No. 11 Harvard on Saturday night at Kinney Natatorium as part of the Bucknell Invitational.
The 17th-ranked Colonials (5-4) fought to bail out of an early 5-0 hole. They rallied to within 9-6 on Andras Levai's goal with 7:17 left in the third quarter, but the Crimson (7-2) hit back with the next three scores to restore the cushion.
Andrew Mavis scored four goals to lead GW's offense. Atakan Destici added a goal and four assists. In net, freshman Vaios Vlahotasios recorded a career-high 12 saves.
It was the second straight weekend the Colonials lost to Harvard as part of a neutral-site tournament. The Crimson won, 14-8, at the Princeton Invitational last Saturday. The teams also play again next month at Harvard.
Earlier in the day, GW downed the University of Toronto, 11-7, in an exhibition.
The Colonials wrap up the event on Sunday morning against Mercyhurst at 9:15 a.m.
