WASHINGTON -- Home contests with Miami, Princeton, and Harvard, along with the BB&T Classic vs. Temple and away from home clashes against the likes of Florida State and Xavier highlight the GW men's basketball team's 2017-18 non-conference slate, which was announced Wednesday.

The Colonials will challenge themselves with as many as five games against teams that appeared in the 2017 NCAA Tournament, including two inside the Smith Center in Princeton (Dec. 6) and Miami (Dec. 16). A road trip to Florida State marks the second game of the season (Nov. 14) while GW will also face Xavier, an Elite Eight team, and either Kansas State or Arizona State, in the Las Vegas Invitational (Nov. 23-24).

"This non-conference schedule will be among the more challenging we've faced in my time here and will have us well-prepared for league play," said head coach Maurice Joseph. "I'm also excited to bring some very tough competition into the Smith Center as we look to continue to build on a streak of winning 30 of our last 31 non-conference home games."

Local foe Howard will be GW's opponent in the regular season opener on Friday, Nov. 10, following an exhibition tune-up vs. Fairmont State on Nov. 4. Games with Hampton (Nov. 18) and Rider (Nov. 20) in the Smith Center serve as the opening round games of the Las Vegas Invitational. November closes with a home game vs. Morgan State on the 29th.

After last year's last-second win at Temple, the Colonials will play host to the Owls in the BB&T Classic on Dec. 3, and then host Princeton before traveling to Penn State (Dec. 9). After a date with the Hurricanes, GW closes its non-conference slate at home vs. New Hampshire (Dec. 20) and Harvard (Dec. 23).

	Fairmont State (Exhibition)	Sat., Nov. 4	Smith Center	GW's lone exhibition will be a test as the Fighting Falcons went 34-3 and reached the Division II National Championship game last season.

	Howard	Sat., Nov. 10	Smith Center	GW won last year's meeting in the Smith Center, 79-62, and holds a 7-1 advantage in the all-time series.

	at Florida State	Tue., Nov. 14	Tallahassee, Fla.	The Colonials and Seminoles conclude their two-game series after FSU traveled to Washington for the BB&T Classic last year.

	Hampton Las Vegas Invitational	Sat., Nov. 18	Smith Center	GW and Hampton have met just twice, with the last meeting coming in 2010. The game is one of two GW will host as part of the Las Vegas Invitational.

	Rider Las Vegas Invitational	Mon., Nov. 20	Smith Center	The schools last met in 1971.

	vs. Xavier Las Vegas Invitational	Thu., Nov. 23	Las Vegas, Nev.	Former A-10 foe Xavier brings back four starters from a team that reached the Elite 8 last season and is a consensus preseason top-25 choice.

	vs. Kansas State/Arizona State Las Vegas Invitational	Fri., Nov. 24	Las Vegas, Nev.	The Colonials will face another quality opponent in either the Las Vegas Invitational Championship game (5:30pm ET) or the consolation game (8pm ET). Like Xavier, K-State is coming off a NCAA Tournament appearance.

	Morgan State	Wed., Nov. 29	Smith Center	GW extended its perfect record against Morgan State in their last meeting in 2005.

	vs. Temple	Sun., Dec. 3	Washington, D.C.	The Colonials took a thrilling victory at Temple last season, when Tyler Cavanaugh hit a clutch three-pointer in the final seconds to give GW the win.

	Princeton	Wed., Dec. 6	Smith Center	The series history is even at 2-2 with Princeton, which comes off a NCAA Tournament appearance.

	at Penn State	Sat., Dec. 9	University Park, Pa.	GW looks for revenge after Penn State snapped GW's 27-game non-conference home winning streak last season.

	Miami	Sat., Dec. 16	Smith Center	GW leads the all-time series 3-1 with the Hurricanes picking up their first win in the series last season in Coral Gables.

	New Hampshire	Wed., Dec. 20	Smith Center	GW and New Hampshire have never met.

	Harvard	Sat., Dec. 23	Smith Center	The Colonials escaped Cambridge, Mass., with a 77-74 victory last season.
