Softball Wins Series at La Salle on Sunday

PHILADELPHIA - The George Washington softball team defeated La Salle, 5-1, on Sunday afternoon to win the Atlantic 10 weekend series.
The Colonials (18-17, 3-6 A-10) took two-of-three games from La Salle, seeing a pair of complete game wins from freshman Faith Weber on the weekend.
GW started the scoring early, plating two runs in the first on a double from freshman Jessica Linquist and a single from classmate Jenna Cone.
The Colonials added three more in the sixth, starting with a two-run home run by Cone - her program-record 16th of the season. Senior Paige Kovalsky later doubled in GW's final run of the day, putting the Buff and Blue ahead 5-0.
The Explorers attempted to rally, plating one on two hits in the seventh, but fell short as GW took the win, 5-1.
Weber (3-4, 3.85 ERA) tossed a complete game gem, allowing just three hits.
GW returns to action for a mid-week doubleheader on Tuesday when Delaware State visits the GW Softball Field on the Mount Vernon Campus.
