WASHINGTON -The George Washington softball team will play its final non-conference game of the season on Wednesday in a single game at Virginia beginning at 6 p.m.
The Colonials (24-21) continue a stretch of seven straight road games after dropping two of three at defending Atlantic 10 champion Fordham over the weekend.
Named one of the NFCA's Freshman of the Year top-25 finalists, Jenna Cone has had a record-breaking season, leading all Division I rookies with a program-record 18 home runs. Her most recent round-tripper - a two-run shot in GW's win at Fordham on Sunday - snapped the program's single-season RBI record, driving in her 54th run of the year. Cone leads the Colonials in most offensive categories, including batting average (.390), runs (41) slugging percentage (.853), and on-base percentage (.472).
Senior Megan Linn has also posted a stellar season, becoming GW's all-time career hits leader and ranking second on the squad in average (.360) and runs scored (34). Already the program's career steals record holder, Linn has swiped 25 bases on the season, being caught just one time.
Junior Sarah Costlow - GW's all-time career wins leader - owns a team-best 9-7 record with a 2.39 ERA this season. Freshman Faith Weber has stepped up in conference play, leading the staff with three A-10 wins.
Virginia (20-29) hosts GW after sweeping Notre Dame on the road to extend its win streak to six.
A year ago, the Colonials and Cavaliers split a doubleheader at the GW Softball Field.
