GW pitcher and utility Cece Smith was announced as the Atlantic 10 Softball Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Smith earned her fourth A-10 weekly award of the season (2x Player of the Week, 2x Pitcher of the Week) after excelling last weekend vs. Rhode Island as both a hitter and pitcher. Â
On offense, Smith was as hard of an out as they come, reaching base in 8-11 plate appearances (.727 OBP). Smith collected seven hits, three of which were doubles, and drove in seven runs to power GW's attack. Smith had hits in all three games in the series, which included a 4-4 performance in the finale with two doubles and five RBI.Â
Additionally, Smith was GW's starting pitcher in both of the Revolutionaries' run-rule wins, cashing in an 1.50 ERA over 9.1 innings of work. Smith allowed just three runs to score all weekend – only two of which were earned – and did so without allowing an extra-base hit. Smith lowered her team-best ERA over the weekend to 2.42, which is the second-best mark in the A-10.
Smith and the Revolutionaries make one final push for the postseason this weekend when they visit St. Bonaventure for a doubleheader Friday (2:00 p.m.) and the regular-season finale Saturday (12:00 p.m.). Â
