WASHINGTON - The George Washington women's tennis team will welcome Julia Herlogsson to the roster in the Fall 2017 semester, head coach Torrie Browning announced on Monday.
A native of Gothenburg, Sweden, Herlogsson will don the Buff and Blue after being ranked as the No. 1 player in her region throughout her junior years. The righty has 10 regional championship titles on her resume and was a Swedish Nationals quarterfinalist in singles in both 2015 and 2016.
"We are super excited to have Julia join our team next year," said Browning. "She was so impressive from her visit that we knew we just had to have her join our Colonials family. She will make an immediate impact on our team with not only her tennis ability, but also her passion for the game, positive outlook, and willingness to strive to get better. This is something that I was looking for; we are extremely lucky to have her join our program."
Herlogsson has also experienced doubles success, owning both a silver and bronze medal for her doubles play at Swedish Nationals.
While competing for her home club team of GLTK, the incoming rookie helped her squad to a runner-up finish in 18-under team nationals in the highest team division in 2015, then went on to finish fourth in 2016.
A strong student off the court, Herlogsson is one of the top students in her class with a 4.0 GPA and has twice won awards in regional Junior Achievement Entrepreneurship competition during her senior year.
"After visiting GW in February, I felt that combination of an outstanding education and tennis was exactly what I was looking for," said Herlogsson. "This is something I have worked hard for, and I cannot wait to be a part of the team this fall."
