WASHINGTON - The George Washington softball squad hosts Atlantic 10 foe Saint Louis for a three-game set beginning with a doubleheader on Friday afternoon. The series finale will be played on Saturday at the GW Softball Field on the Mount Vernon Campus.
The Colonials (20-17, 3-6 A-10) downed Delaware State in a pair of games on Tuesday to begin a seven-game homestand. GW will welcome alumnae back over the weekend, with an Alumni Weekend reception on Friday evening after the games.
GW grabbed a pair of A-10 weekly awards after posting a 4-1 mark last week, with Jenna Cone receiving Rookie of the Week honors and senior Megan Linn garnering Player of the Week distinction. The pair helped the Colonials win their first A-10 series of the season, taking two-of-three games at La Salle.
Cone leads the Colonials and ranks third in the league with a .393 average and is GW's single-season record holder and A-10 leader with 16 home runs. The freshman sits atop the conference with 50 RBIs - just four shy of snapping GW's single-season record.
Linn is right behind Cone with a .389 average this season to rank fourth in the A-10. The speedster leads the league with 21 stolen bases and sits second in the conference with 49 hits this season after becoming GW's all-time career hits leader last week.
Junior ace Sarah Costlow leads GW's staff in the circle with an 8-6 record and a 2.25 ERA. Already GW's career wins leader, Costlow has held opposing batters to a .236 average this season.
Saint Louis (15-8, 4-7 A-10) is batting .252 as a team and has a staff ERA of 2.96 and holds opponents to a .251 average.
