SETTING SAIL: GW sailing competes in a trio or regattas this weekend, sending a women's team to Navy and squads to team-racing regattas at St. Mary's College of Maryland and Georgetown.
LINEUP: At Navy, Miranda Bakos and Belle Strachan will sail in A Division while Riley Leagult and Alexandra Fayer will sail in B Division, with Madison Oleson, Sarah Alexander, Kia Olsson and Emma Mendenhall on hand as alternates. The starting team at St. Mary's will be Brendan Shanahan and Mercedes McPhee; Andrew Sheerin and Matt Homa; and Kai Friesecke and Briggs D'Eliscu, with Sarah Noyes serving as an extra. Finally, at the John Jackson Team Race at Georgetown, the starting team is Derek Poon-Tip and Shira Golub; Rhodes Garner and Zach Lehan; and Sam White and Marshall McCraw, with extras Adam DiDomizio and Connor West.
BILLY'S BULLETS: "The women's team is competing at the US Naval Academy where the team will be familiarizing themselves with the waters there before their conference championships at the same venue later this semester," said head coach Billy Martin. "It also will have top-level competition so we also will be gauging other teams. The other two events are team-racing events at St. Mary's College of Maryland and Georgetown University. We are making a huge push to qualify for team racing nationals and have been spending a lot of time on the water focusing on that goal. GW has never qualified for team racing nationals so it would be a first for this program."
HOW TO FOLLOW: Scores for all three regattas can be followed here.
UP NEXT: GW will continue team racing with the Navy Team Race next weekend (March 18-19) while the women's team will head to face a national field at the St. Mary's Women's Interconference.
