WASHINGTON - The George Washington softball squad looks to extend its four game win streak over the weekend at the three-day UC Santa Barbara Gaucho Classic.
The Colonials (6-6) have won four consecutive games by virtue of the run-rule for the first time in program history. GW's bats were unstoppable in wins over Monmouth and Quinnipiac in last weekend's Colonial Classic.
Jenna Cone was named A-10 Co-Rookie of the Week after blasting two home runs and knocking in eight runs in GW's three victories. Junior righty Sarah Costlow also had a stellar weekend, allowing just one run and four hits across two complete game triumphs.
GW is slated for five games over the weekend, facing San Diego twice with single games against Northern Colorado, Sacred Heart and host UC Santa Barbara.
Northern Colorado (5-14) has dropped its last three games and is allowing opponents to bat .341 so far this season.
Sacred Heart (3-7) is in the midst of a six-game skid but has held opponents to a .218 batting average with a team ERA of 3.06.
San Diego (5-8) has fallen in three of its last four contests and has given up 13 home runs in 2017.
Host UC Santa Barbara (9-10) takes a five-game win streak into the weekend, most recently defeating Nebraska-Omaha in extra innings on Sunday. The Gauchos have also been susceptible to the long ball this season, yielding 19 round-trippers.
The Colonials will face Northern Colorado for just the second time in program history and the first since 2005. Sacred Heart, San Diego and UC Santa Barbara will all be first time matchups.
