WASHINGTON - The George Washington softball team, originally scheduled to play a three-game series at UMass, will now play three games at the GW Softball Field on the Mount Vernon Campus due to impending snow in Amherst.
The Colonials (13-14, 0-3 A-10) look to bounce back after dropping their opening A-10 series to Dayton last weekend. While GW will play on its home turf, Massachusetts will play as the home team throughout the series.
Freshman Jenna Cone made history on Sunday, belting her 12th home run of the season to snap GW's single-season home run record. Cone is the first in the A-10 to reach double-digit round-trippers; the rookie's 36 RBIs is the most-ever by a Colonial freshman and ranks second in the conference.
As a squad, the Colonials lead the conference with an impressive .312 team batting average and six players own an average above .300. The Buff and Blue rank second with 36 stolen bases, led by senior Megan Linn's 13 swipes.
Junior Sarah Costlow (6-5, 2.26 ERA) has led GW in the circle, tossing nine complete games and holding opposing hitters to a paltry .233 average and walking just 25 batters in 80.2 innings of work.
Massachusetts (8-14) opens its A-10 slate against GW after facing Boston University in doubleheader action on Thursday.
The Minutewomen are hitting .237 on the year with four long-balls and 23 total extra-base hits. The UMass pitching staff owns a 3.45 ERA and has held opponents to a .245 average.
