MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- After 36 holes of play at the Bash at the Beach Invitational, the GW golf team is in fourth place and just six shots off the lead heading into the final round on Tuesday.
The Colonials opened with a 4-over par 288 and were in second before shooting 14-over 298 as conditions worsened in the afternoon, to finish at 18-over 586. South Carolina Beaufort leads the tournament at 12-over while Jacksonville State and Oakland are just three shots in front of GW at 15-over.
A pair of Colonials head into the final round in contention; junior Jack Porcelli tied his career-low round with a 2-under 69 and is just three shots off the lead after a second round 74. Sophomore Logan Lowe followed an opening-round 73 with an even-par 71 in rainy afternoon conditions and is tied for eighth, just three shots off the lead.
"It was cold and windy this morning, and then we had steady rain all afternoon, which made for some very sloppy conditions," said head coach Chuck Scheinost. "I'm very happy with how the guys played; they stayed patient all day. Jack played really well shooting 69 in the morning. He had an unfortunate wrong ball penalty on the first hole of the second round that cost him a double bogey, but he really did a good job bouncing back from that."
Also contending for a top-10 finish is redshirt junior Christian Cichan, who shot 72-75 and is tied for 15th. Rounding out GW's lineup were freshman Yoo Jin Kim (74-79) and junior Vince Palazzolo (78-78), while freshman Adrian Castagnola (75-76) and senior Michael Heda (75-76) competed as individuals and are both tied for 33rd.
Play concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday and live stats can be followed here.
