No. 14 Gymnastics Extends Unbeaten Streak with Sunday Win

WASHINGTON - The No. 14 George Washington gymnastics team tied a program record for the best start to a season by sweeping the competition and posting a season-high team score to win the annual Brownie & Girl Scout on Sunday afternoon at the Charles E. Smith Center.
GW (11-0) ties the 2015 squad for the best start to a season after topping the four team field with a season-high score of 196.40. The Colonials also posted season-high team scores of 49.10 on vault and 49.225 on floor exercise in addition to marks of 49.05 on uneven bars and 49.025 on balance beam.
East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) rival New Hampshire finished second with a score of 196.075, followed by fellow conference member Towson (194.95) and Ball State (194.175).
GW gymnasts accounted for a trio of event titles on Sunday afternoon. Junior Cami Drouin-Allaire won the vault title with a 9.90, the 11th time in her career she has scored 9.90 or better on that apparatus. Junior Liz Pfeiler tied for the balance beam title with a season-high 9.90 and senior Chelsea Raineri was the top performer of the day on floor exercise with a career-high tying 9.90.
Drouin-Allaire placed second in the all-around with a season-high 39.225. She scored 9.80 on uneven bars (T-6th), 9.725 on beam (14th) and 9.80 on floor exercise (T-11th) on top of her vault performance.
Junior Jillian Winstanley tied for fourth in the all-around with a score of 39.025, aided by scores of 9.80 on vault (T-9th), 9.85 on bars (2nd), 9.60 on beam (18th) and 9.775 on floor exercise (T-16th).
Raineri also tied for second on vault with a season-high tying 9.875 and placed sixth on uneven bars with a 9.80.
Junior Alex Zois had a strong meet after tying for third place on uneven bars with a 9.825 and scoring 9.75 on balance beam (13th). Classmate Sara Mermelstein contributed to GW's season-high score by tying for second on floor with a 9.875 and by performing well on both beam (9.825, 7th) and vault (9.775, T-12th).
GW will attempt to set a new program record for its best start to a season when it visits No. 11 Missouri on Friday for a quad meet with Iowa State and Lindenwood.
