Lacrosse Set to Host Georgetown on Wednesday

OPENING DRAW: The George Washington Lacrosse team goes back-to-back at home on Wednesday when it hosts Georgetown at 3 p.m. at the GW Lacrosse Field on the Mount Vernon Campus.
LAST TIME OUT: GW (0-1) dropped its season opener to Monmouth, 16-15, on Saturday afternoon. Junior Jocelyn Donohue took a pass from senior Bailey Forcier and converted it to even the score at 15 with 23 seconds remaining in the game, but the Hawks responded with a quick goal off the draw to prevail in the final seconds. Seven Colonials ended up in the scoring column, while junior Adele Wise recorded nine saves in between the pipes.
HEATING UP: Donohue paced GW with four goals on Saturday and also recorded four draw controls, one assist, and one ground ball. The Amherst, New Hampshire, native is coming off a breakout sophomore campaign where she tied as the team leader with 22 goals and ranked fourth with 25 points.
PICKING UP WHERE SHE LEFT OFF: Forcier finished the 2015 campaign on a high note, ranking fourth in the A-10 with 1.59 assists per game, leading GW with 34 points, and topping the team with 27 assists - a mark that is tied for the fifth highest single-season total in program history. The senior picked up where she left off in the 2017 opener, tallying a game-high eight ground balls, and netting a pair of goals and assists.
SENIOR SAVVY: Seniors Shea Cassidy and Cassidy Shollenberger each had two goals on Saturday. Senior Michaela Lynch chipped in on the offensive end as well, recording one goal, one assist, and a game-high four ground balls.
FRESH START: Freshmen Caroline Kiernan and Katie Quinn both earned starts in their collegiate debuts, matching their veteran teammates with two goals apiece. Kiernan had four shots and one ground ball, while Quinn tallied two shots and one assist.
SCOUTING GEORGETOWN: Georgetown (0-1) dropped its season opener to the University of Delaware on Saturday in a 10-9 decision. Sophomore Taylor Gebhardt led the way with five points on two goals and three assists, while senior goalkeeper Maddy Fisher was active in the cage with 14 saves on the afternoon. The Hoyas were outshot, 27-14, and the Blue Hens picked up 16 ground balls to the Bulldogs' 12.
LAST MEETING: The schools have met just three times, with Georgetown taking each meeting, the most recent coming in 2009.
LOOK AHEAD: The Colonials will hit the road for the first time this season on Saturday to take on Longwood at 1 p.m.
