WASHINGTON - The George Washington volleyball team concluded the regular season on Saturday night with a hard-fought, 3-0 loss to Saint Louis on Senior Night but still clinched a spot in the upcoming Atlantic 10 Championship.

WASHINGTON - The George Washington volleyball team concluded the regular season on Saturday night with a hard-fought, 3-0 loss to Saint Louis on Senior Night but still clinched a spot in the upcoming Atlantic 10 Championship.
The sixth-seeded Colonials, making their third A-10 Championship appearance in the last four seasons, will get a rematch with third-seeded Saint Louis on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the A.J. Palumbo Center in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Key Stats
- GW hit .260 for the match, above its season average, but was bested by a .371 attack percentage from the Billikens.
- Freshman Marianna Warren led the Colonials with 11 kills on a .333 attack percentage.
- Senior Kristel Moor also hit above .300 on the way to 10 kills.
- Graduate student Stacey Benton finished with 36 assists, five digs and two block assists.
How It Happened
Set 1: Saint Louis 26, GW 24
- The first set was the closest of the match with 13 ties and three lead changes.
- Saint Louis committed just three attack errors in the first and swung .390.
- GW played out to an early 15-11 lead but conceded a 5-1 run that knotted the score at 16-16.
- Neither team was able to pull away until GW broke a 20-20 tie with a 3-1 spurt to take a 23-21 lead.
- Saint Louis rebounded out of a timeout and closed on a 5-1 run to take the first set.
Set 2: Saint Louis 27, GW 25
- The Billikens started the second set on a 7-3 run.
- GW erased the deficit by scoring six straight points to take a 9-7 lead.
- The Billikens answered with a 12-4 run to move ahead, 19-13.
- Trailing 22-16, Warren put down three consecutive kills to ignite an 8-1 run to give the Colonials a 24-23 lead.
- The Billikens scored two straight to get to set point, but the Colonials tied the score at 25-25 on a service error. Saint Louis shook off the error and put down two straight kills for the 27-25 win.
Set 3: Saint Louis 25, GW 15
- Saint Louis took control of the third set from the outset via a 13-4 run and clinched the match with the 25-15 win.
Look Ahead
- GW and Saint Louis will meet again in the Atlantic 10 Quarterfinals next Friday at 5:30 p.m. The winner will advance to face No. 2 seed Dayton.
- The other quarterfinal features No. 4 Duquesne vs. No. 5 Rhode Island with the winner getting No. 1 seed and regular-season champion VCU in Saturday's semifinals.
- The semifinals take place on Saturday, Nov. 18, at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., followed by Sunday's championship match at 1 p.m.
