Volleyball Opens Critical Home Stretch on Friday

LEADING OFF: The George Washington volleyball team will commence a regular-season ending five-match homestand this weekend at the Charles E. Smith Center. The Colonials will host Duquesne on Friday night (7 p.m.) before Saturday's meeting with La Salle (7 p.m.).
FAMILIAR FACES: GW has already faced each team in its upcoming homestand. In regards to this weekend's opponents, GW downed La Salle, 3-2, on Sept. 22 and lost by a score of 3-1 at Duquesne on Sept. 24.
STANDINGS CHECK: The Colonials enter the weekend in the thick of the Atlantic 10 Championship picture. The top six teams at the end of the regular season will advance to the A-10 Championship, Nov. 17-19, in Pittsburgh.
The Colonials currently sit in seventh place with a 3-6 conference record, just behind Rhode Island and Fordham, which share identical 4-6 records.
LAST TIME OUT: GW fought hard in a narrow 3-1 loss at reigning A-10 Champion Dayton on Sunday. Three players finished with double-figure kills, led by senior Kristel Moor's 15 winners.
DIG AND BLOCK: The Colonials rank near the top of the conference in two major defensive categories. GW sits third overall with a team average of 14.55 digs per set and ranks fourth in blocks at 1.98 per set.
APPROACHING 200: The duo of junior Kelsey Clark and senior Aaliya Davidson are leading GW's attack this season and both players are approaching 200 kills for the season. Clark leads the Colonials with 199 kills with one more giving her 200 in a season for the second time in her career. She totaled 288 kills during her A-10 Co-Rookie of the Year Campaign in 2015.
Davidson sits second on the team with 198 kills and is on pace to reach 200 kills for the third straight season. Her career-high total came during the 2015 season when she finished with 238 kills.
