TIPPING OFF: The George Washington women's basketball team will aim for three straight wins to open its Atlantic 10 slate when it hosts Saint Joseph's on Wednesday night at the Charles E. Smith Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: GW moved to 2-0 in conference play with a 75-40 win at Duquesne on New Year's Day. Three players scored in double figures, led by graduate student Lexi Martins' 14-point, 10-rebound double-double, and the Colonials' defense allowed season lows of 40 points and 15 made field goals in its fifth consecutive win over the Dukes.
DEFENSIVE PRESENCE: In addition to allowing season-low point and made field goal totals, the Colonials' defense put forth its finest 40-minute effort of the season in the rout over Duquesne.
GW also tied season-best marks in steals (11) and forced turnovers (21) while exceeding its season-average of 6.5 blocks by posting seven total rejections. The Colonials also allowed season-low totals in free throws, free-throw attempts and points in a quarter (four in third quarter).
DOUBLE UP: Martins' double-double marked her second of the season and 44th overall in her collegiate career. It was also her 57th career double-figure scoring game and the 54th time she has grabbed 10 or more rebounds.
The double-figure scoring efforts at Duquesne by juniors Kelli Prange (12 points) and Camila Tapias (11 points) mark their fifth and third such performances of the season, respectively.
LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS: GW tied a season high with 25 assists on 32 made field goals on Sunday, led by flawless performances from point guards Mei-Lyn Bautista and Camila Tapias. Bautista dished out a season-high seven assists against zero turnovers while Tapias contributed two dimes without a miscue.
GW got helpers from 10 players in the rout, with six players recording multiple assists.
FIVE TO GO: Senior Hannah Schaible needs just five points on Wednesday to become the 32nd member of GW's 1,000-point club. She will become the third active 1,000-point scorer on the roster, joining classmate Caira Wasington (1,390) and Lexi Martins (1,167).
UP THE CHARTS: Washington's 968 career rebounds recently moved her past former teammate Jonquel Jones (961) on GW's career-rebounding list into third place in program history. She needs just three more boards to move past GW Athletic Hall of Famer Tajama Abraham (970) and into sole possession of second place.
Washington is on pace to become just the second player in program history with 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds, joining Darlene Saar (1,809 points, 1,139 rebounds).
SCOUTING SAINT JOSEPH'S: The Hawks enter Wednesday's game with a 3-10 overall record and 0-1 mark in the Atlantic 10 following a 70-52 loss at Richmond in its conference opener. Saint Joseph's was playing without its top two scorers on Saturday in Chelsea Woods (14.0 ppg) and Adashia Franklin (12.3 ppg).
The Hawks rank sixth in the A-10 by scoring 62.8 points per game, led by a .337 percentage from three-point range, but rank near the bottom of the conference in scoring defense (12th, 66.2), field-goal percentage defense (13th, .413) and three-point defense (14th, .361).
SERIES HISTORY: Saint Joseph's is the only team in the Atlantic 10 that has an all-time winning record against George Washington at 30-28, but the Colonials have won the last three games in a row and four of the last five.
