
No. 14 Gymnastics Continues Hot Start with Win at Towson

TOWSON, Md. - The No. 12 George Washington gymnastics team continued its hot start to the 2017 season by earning a dual-meet victory over East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) rival Towson on Sunday afternoon at SECU Arena.
GW (5-0) posted a season-high score of 196.00 on Sunday, led by another strong team performance on balance beam. The Colonials combined to score 49.15, the third straight meet to open the season with a 49.00 or better on that apparatus. GW also scored a season-high 48.975 on uneven bars, 48.95 on vault and 48.925 on floor exercise.
The Colonials swept each event title with junior Cami Drouin-Allaire leading the way by taking first place in the all-around with a score of 39.20. She scored 9.85 on vault (2nd), 9.75 on uneven bars (T-7th), 9.825 on balance beam (T-2nd) and 9.775 on floor exericse (T-3rd).
A quartet of Colonials shared the uneven bars title as senior Alex DeMoura, junior Jillian Winstanley, junior Liz Pfeiler and senior Chelsea Raineri all scored 9.80 to claim the top spot.
DeMoura and Raineri also shared the floor exercise title with a 9.80 while junior Sara Mermelstein earned top honors on balance beam with a 9.875 and tied for third on floor with a 9.775.
DeMoura placed second in the all-around with a 39.00. She posted a 9.575 on vault and 9.825 on beam in addition to her scores on bars and floor.
Winstanley was responsible for the top vault routine of the day when she hit for 9.875 to lead GW in a sweep of the podium.
Raineri, the two-time reigning EAGL Specialist of the Week, continued a strong start to her senior season by tying for third place on vault (9.775) in addition to her shares of event titles on bars and floor.
GW will next compete at the MetroPlex Challenge against San Jose State, Central Michigan and Bowling Green at the Fort Worth Convention Center Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
