LEADING OFF: The George Washington volleyball team will play its final road non-conference tournament of the season this weekend at the Cougar Classic at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington.
LAST TIME OUT: GW used a balanced attack, with four players posting at least nine kills, to roll past Loyola (Md.), 3-1, on Tuesday night in Baltimore.
Freshman Skylar Iott continued an impressive start to her collegiate career with a team-high 13 kills while seniors Chidima Osuchukwu (12 kills), Loren Williams (11) and junior Kristel Moor (9) complemented the attack.
SKYLAR'S START: Iott is off to a blistering start to her collegiate career. The reigning Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week, Iott has posted double-digit kills in all seven matches this season and ranks third in the conference with an average of 3.88 kills per set. She leads the Colonials and ranks sixth in the A-10 with 97 total kills.
CHICH ON THE BLOCK: Osuchukwu continues to excel as one of the top blocking threats in Division I after a stellar outing on Tuesday night against Loyola (Md.) that saw her register five solo blocks for the second time in her career, one short of the program record for a four-set match.
She enters the weekend leading the Atlantic 10 in both total blocks and blocks per set. Her 39 total blocks ranks ninth overall in the nation while her average of 1.56 is good for 16th overall.
The two-time AVCA All-East Region selection is on pace to become GW's all-time career leader in block assists later this season.
PICK YOUR POISON: The trio of Iott (97 kills), Osuchukwu (75) and Williams (63) have accounted for 78-percent of GW's kills through the first seven games of the season.
Between them they have combined for 14 double-digit kill efforts, including two matches (Loyola & Seton Hall) when all three have accomplished the feat.
THE OPPONENTS: Idaho is 3-3 entering the weekend following a trio of losses against Washington, Seattle and Villanova at the Seattle U tournament.
Washington State is 5-1 overall with its only blemish being a 3-1 loss at Purdue in the first weekend of the season. The Cougars most recently won three in a row, dropping just one set, at the Long Beach State Invitational.
UMES is 7-1 to start the season, only dropping a straight-sets match to American on September 1.
