LEADING OFF: The George Washington volleyball team opens the Atlantic 10 portion of its schedule with a pair of road matches in the midwest this weekend. The Colonials will visit reigning A-10 Champion Dayton on Friday at 7:00 p.m., followed by a Sunday matinee (2:00 p.m.) at Saint Louis.
LAST TIME OUT: GW fought hard in each match but ultimately fell in home meetings with James Madison, Northern Illinois and Tennessee last weekend at the GW Invitational at the Charles E. Smith Center.
ALL-TOURNAMENT: Senior Chidima Osuchukwu was named to the GW Invitational All-Tournament Team after leading the Colonials throughout the weekend. She totaled double-digit kills in all three matches and swung .453 for the weekend with just six attack errors.
She opened the weekend with 13 kills (.345) and three block assists against James Madison before totaling 13 kills and one attack error (.571) with three block assists against Northern Illinois. She concluded the weekend with 14 kills (.480) and four blocks (three solo, one assist) against Tennessee.
Osuchukwu has been named to a non-conference, All-Tournament team three times this season. For her career, she has earned All-Tournament distinction nine times.
CONFERENCE CLASH: GW has developed quite the rivalry with both of this weekend's conference opponents over the past few seasons.
GW met Dayton in the Atlantic 10 Championship Match back in November 2014 as well as the Atlantic 10 Championship Semifinals last year at the Charles E. Smith Center. The Flyers won each of those matches, outlasting the Colonials in four and five sets, respectively.
The Colonials have been victorious over Saint Louis four times in eight meetings under head coach Amanda Ault, most notably picking up a 3-0 sweep in the 2014 Atlantic 10 Championship Semifinals.
SKY HIGH: Freshman Skylar Iott has looked like a seasoned veteran across her first 13 collegiate matches. She has totaled double-digit kills in 10 out of 13 matches this season and enters the weekend leading GW and ranking sixth overall in the A-10 with an average of 3.38 kills per set.
She also ranks second on the team with 135 total kills.
EFFICIENT HITTING: GW and Dayton enter Friday's match as the top-hitting teams in the Atlantic 10. The Flyers are swinging a league-best .280 entering the weekend while GW is hitting .228.
SCOUTING DAYTON: The Flyers, A-10 Champions six of the past seven seasons, enter the weekend with a 13-1 overall record. The only loss came in a 3-0 sweep against Loyola Marymount.
Jessica Sloan leads Dayton with 178 kills while Amber Erhahon (154 kills) and Lauren Bruns (124) complement the attack.
COUTING SAINT LOUIS: The Billikens are 5-10 this season but have won three of their last five matches.
Danielle Rygelski leads NCAA Division I with 301 total kills and ranks fourth overall in the nation with both 5.38 kills per set and 13.34 attacks per set.
Saint Louis will host George Mason on Friday night.
