GW Volleyball Sinks Seton Hall, 3-1

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Three players totaled double-digit kills, with freshman Skylar Iott and senior Chidima Osuchukwu combining for 41 winners, as the George Washington volleyball team opened the Seton Hall Classic with a 3-1 win over the host Pirates on Friday evening at Walsh Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-23, 25-22, 20-25, 25-23.
The trio of Iott (25 kills), Osuchukwu (16) and senior Loren Williams (10) led GW (2-2) on the attack, with senior Emily Clemens running a fluid offense by posting a double-double of 50 assists and a team-high 14 digs.
Senior Maddie Brown partnered with Clemens on defense, finishing with 11 digs and four assists.
GW opened the first set on an 8-3 run before Seton Hall (0-4) answered to take a 15-13 lead midway through the set. Iott accounted for five of the next six kills as the Colonials surged to a 22-20 lead. The Pirates rallied out of a timeout and retook the lead by one, but Osuchukwu answered with two straight kills to clinch the first set, 25-23.
The Colonials swung .364 (17k-5e-33a) and used a late run in the second set to take a 25-22 win. Seton Hall led 21-20 late in the frame but a kill by Osuchukwu tied the score. An attack error put GW ahead for good before clinching the set with kills by Iott, Clemens and sophomore Kelsey Clark.
Seton Hall got on the board with a win in the third set after hitting .387 with just two attack errors. They led for nearly all of the 25-20 win.
GW rebounded to clinch the match in the fourth set with a 25-23 win. The Colonials fell behind, 20-17, but roared back with a 8-3 run to seal the match.
Osuchukwu swung .481 on the way to her 16 kills. She also led all players with seven blocks, including a pair of solo rejections.
GW aims for its third win in a row at noon on Saturday against Towson. The tournament concludes with a match against Canisius at 5:30 p.m.
