GW Completes Two Weekend Regattas

WASHINGTON â€" In its first interconference competitions of the fall, the George Washington sailing team recorded strong finishes against national fields at the Stu Nelson Regatta and the Nevins Trophy over the weekend.
At the Stu Nelson women's competition in Connecticut, GW juniors Miranda Bakos, Belle Strachan, and Kia Olsson raced in A Division, while sophomore Riley Legault skippered B, crewed by senior Madison Oleson and junior Sarah Alexander.
The Colonials sailed to a 10th-place finish out of 18 teams, highlighted by a first-place finish in the A Division in race seven, and a third-place finish in race three. In B division, Legault and Oleson picked up a first-place finish in race 10.
GW's second regatta was the Nevins Trophy hosted by Kings Point in New York, where six GW sailors raced the Colonials to an eighth-place finish among 20 teams.
In B Division, skipper Kai Friesecke, along with crew Katie Lounsbury and Briggs D'Eliscu, recorded seven top-five finishes, with four of those coming in the last five races. Skipper Brendan Shanahan and freshman crew Andreea Ranney-Pace had a first-place finish in race three of A Division, while Adam DiDomizio peaked with two, fourth-place finishes in races six and nine in the C Division.
The Colonials have a busy weekend ahead, with four competitions in addition to the Alumni Regatta in Washington. GW will compete in the Faye Bennet MAISA Women's Singles, the MAISA Laser Qualifier, the South Fall Qualifier and St. Mary's College of Maryland Fall Interconference.
