COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Sophomore Maria Siopacha advanced to the singles main draw semifinal as the GW women's tennis team completed its first fall tournament of the year on Sunday afternoon.
Eighth-seeded Siopacha reached the semifinal round before falling to fourth-seeded Timea Guibe of James Madison, 6-3, 6-1, on Sunday.
Sophomore Victoria Kogan triumphed in her first consolation singles match on Sunday, dominating Coppin State's Tanna Nita, 6-0, 6-0, before falling to top-seeded Jona Roka of James Madison. Juniors Kamilla Beisenova and Marie-Louise Decamps each earned wins via default, and Decamps went on to defeat VCU's Darya Berezhnaya, 2-6, 6-3, 10-4.
Rookie Melis Bayraktaroglu fought hard but ultimately fell in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 10-6, in her consolation match.
The Colonials continue fall tournament play next weekend as GW will compete at the St. Joseph's Invite and UVA Fall Invite from Sept. 23-25.
