GW Volleyball Welcomes Five Newcomers in 2016

WASHINGTON -- George Washington volleyball head coach Amanda Ault has announced that five student-athletes are confirmed to join the Colonials' roster for the 2016 season.
The incoming quintet of freshman student-athletes -- Madison Clay (Santa Clara, Calif./Crystal Springs Uplands School), Jaimeson Lee (Austin, Texas/Brentwood Christian School), Skylar Iott (Ida, Mich./St. Mary Catholic Central), Reilley Wehrstein (Rockford, Ill./Keith Country Day) and Jordan Young (Stewardsville, N.J./Bethlehem Catholic) - hail from five different states around the country and feature a pair of outside hitters, a setter and two defensive specialists.
The class joins 10 returning student athletes as the Colonials aim to win its first Atlantic 10 Championship since 2002 after three consecutive appearances in the semifinals of the A-10 Championship, including an appearance in the championship match in 2014.
Clay is a defensive specialist who helped Crystal Springs Uplands School to a pair of league championships in 2012 and 2015. She was a First Team All-League selection as a senior and a Honorable Mention pick as a junior. She served as team captain her senior year, helping the team to the Division V NorCal Semfinals. She also has extensive club experience after competing at Vision Volleyball Club in Los Gatos, California (2010-16). She helped her club team to rankings of No. 9 in the nation and No. 5 in California according to Triple Crown Sports. She also has international team experience after training with the USA Volleyball A2 High Performance camp in the summer of 2012.
Lee is a setter out of Brentwood Christian School, a team she helped to the 2015 TAPPS Class 3A State Championship after three consecutive appearances in the championship match. She totaled 288 kills, 696 assists, 211 digs and 59 aces across 118 sets as a senior. She was also a First Team All-Central Texas and First Team TAPPS 3A District 4 selection in 2015.
Iott, an outside hitter out of St. Mary Catholic Central, was a Michigan Miss Volleyball Finalist following her senior season. A two-time Michigan Class C All-State selection, Iott helped her team to consecutive Michigan Class C Championship match appearances, including a 45-8-2 overall record en route to the 2014 state championship. She has also competed for the Premier Volleyball Academy for five years.
Wehrstein is a defensive specialist out of Keith Country Day in Illinois. She earned First Team Northeastern Athletic League All-Conference honors as a junior before being sidelined during her senior season due to injury. While on the floor, she helped her team to three consecutive IHSA 1A State Championships (2012-14). She also played soccer during her scholastic career, earning Northeastern Athletic League All-Conference honors as a freshman.
Rounding out the class is Young, an outside hitter. A decorated player, Young was named the Bethlehem Catholic High School (Becahi) Female Athlete of the Year as a senior after being a four-year varsity starter. She helped lead her team to three consecutive PIAA District 11 Championships (2012-14) and an appearance in the District 11 Championship match as a senior. She also was the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference (EPC) Most Valuable Player as a senior, named a Prep Volleyball Preseason All-American prior to start of senior season and a finalist for Prep Volleyball's 2014 National Junior of the Year Award. Additional accolades include a Max Preps Second Team All-America selection and a First Team All-State selection as a junior. She was also named the Express Times/Lehigh Valley Live Player of the Year as a junior and earned First Team All-District and Second Team All-Conference honors as a sophomore. She also has club experiences after competing for Court Authority Volleyball Academy (2009-13) and East Coast Power Volleyball Club (2014-16).
