Five members of the George Washington sailing team have earned All-Mid Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA) honors, including head coach John Pearce, who was named Coach of the Year.
In addition to Pearce, sophomore Miranda Bakos (women's skipper first team), senior Hannah McNomee (women's skipper second team), sophomore Belle Strachan (All-MAISA crew) and junior Brendan Shanahan (coed skipper second team) were honored by the MAISA All-Conference Awards Committee.
Pearce has led the Colonials to a No. 7 ranking in the women's division, a No. 15 ranking in coed and a historic season of firsts. The GW women won the MAISA Championship in the fall for the first time in program history and successfully defended it last month. At the MAISA Coed Championship, GW finished fourth to qualify for the ICSA National Championship for the first time.
Bakos and McNomee served as the lead skippers in both of GW's MAISA Championships, while Strachan crewed with Bakos in both events. At the MAISA Coed Championship, Shanahan skippered in A Division while Bakos crewed.
This marks the first time in program history GW has been represented on the All-MAISA Team. The Colonials are next in action later this month, when ICSA Women's Nationals get underway on May 24. Coed Nationals begin on May 31.
