SAN DIEGO -- Wrapping a season in which GW garnered a number six national ranking and won two women's MAISA Championships, the Colonials finished 10th at the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) / Sperry Women's Nationals on Friday afternoon.
GW saved it's best racing for last, moving up from 16th to 10th for the best finish at nationals in program history. The Colonials finished 13th a year ago.
"We were able to string together a better series of races, get more in sync with the conditions and find ways to be more aggressive," said head coach John Pearce. "We leaped a bunch of great teams, so this is a big step forward for our program. It really shows we're here to stay and among the best teams in the nation. I'm very proud of our team."
The U.S. Coast Guard Academy claimed the national title, edging out runner-up Brown. Boston University, Rhode Island, Yale, Dartmouth, Vermont, MIT, Stanford and GW rounded out the top 10. Full scores can be seen here.
Though GW's season has concluded in the women's division, the Colonials are still set to compete in the coed national championship, which gets underway on Monday in San Diego. GW is ranked No. 13 in the coed poll.
