THIS WEEKEND: The George Washington sailing team competes in a pair of events, the MAISA Team Race Championship for the Prosser Trophy at Old Dominion and the Emily Wick Women's Interconference Regatta at Connecticut College. Scoring is available here.
THE PROSSER TROPHY: The main event of the weekend, the Prosser Trophy, serves as a qualifier for Team Race Nationals which will be held May 28-30 in San Diego. The top four finishers secure a spot in the 16-team field at nationals. No. 14 GW's regatta team will be skippers Brendan Shanahan, Kai Friesecke, Derek Poon-Tip and Andrew Sheerin (alternate), and crews Miranda Bakos, Shira Golub, Riley Legault, Belle Strachan, Henry Young, Connor West and Colin Kennedy.
PEARCE'S POINTS: "The forecast is for extremely windy conditions on Saturday, with more moderate conditions on Sunday," said head coach John Pearce. "The heavy-wind racing on Saturday will be a real test of our fitness, and the variety of wind conditions throughout the weekend will test our depth as we rotate different sailors in depending on their size and sailing style. The key is to put our best foot forward in every race throughout the weekend."
EMILY WICK REGATTA: The 18-team field consists of many of the nationally ranked teams as GW looks to follow up on a strong fifth-place finish at last weekend's Dellenbaugh Regatta at Brown, and improve upon their 12th place women's ranking. The Colonials will be represented by skippers India Johnstone, Hannah McNomee and Maria Sinagra, and crews Kelly Weigold, Emma Mendenhall, Madison Oleson, Kia Olsson and Mercedes McPhee.
LOOKING AHEAD: Following this weekend's competition, GW has a busy slate of events on April 16-17 with the Navy Spring Regatta at the US Naval Academcy, Owen Trophy at Cornell and Thompson Trophy at the US Coast Guard Academy.
