RICHMOND, Va. -- Senior Gabbi Hull matched her career high with four goals to lead the George Washington lacrosse team to its first Atlantic 10 victory of the season, an 11-10 decision over host Richmond on Friday afternoon at the Robins Stadium.
Junior Bailey Forcier tallied four points on two goals and two assists along with a team-best three draw controls. Junior Michaela Lynch (1g, 2a) also recorded multiple points.
Sophomore goalkeeper Adele Wise registered double-digit saves for the second game in a row, finishing with 11 against the Spiders after stopping a career-high 15 shots against Massachusetts last Sunday.
Richmond got on the board quickly, scoring 67 seconds into the contest, but Forcier responded just 17 seconds later, igniting a 7-1 GW run over an 18-minute span. Six different Colonials scored during the surge, as GW led, 7-3, at the break.
The Spiders opened the second half with three straight goals to cut their deficit to one, and after a Hull marker, Richmond's Brooke Wilson scored twice in a row to tie the game at 8-8 with 15:37 remaining. Hull briefly regained the lead for the Colonials with her third goal of the game three minutes later, but Mia Castagnero knotted the score once more with just under 10 minutes to go.
Hull put the Colonials on top for good with 9:09 left, and sophomore Camaryn Kerins tallied an important insurance goal at the 6:40 mark to make it 11-9. Richmond found the back of the net with 25 seconds left to make it a one-goal game, but Hull won the ensuing draw control and GW held on for the 11-10 win.
Wilson paced the Spiders with three goals and an assist, and goalkeeper Michaela Aymong recorded six saves.
The Colonials return to action on Sunday when they visit Atlantic 10 rival VCU at 12 p.m.
