WASHINGTON - The George Washington softball team visits Atlantic 10 rival George Mason on Wednesday afternoon for a midweek Revolutionary Rivalry doubleheader.
The Colonials (17-18, 5-4 A-10) look to bounce back after a tough weekend of play against defending A-10 Champion Fordham.
As a team, the Colonials rank second in the A-10 with a .281 average and lead the league with 60 stolen bases. Juniors Megan Linn (.396/.456/.631) and Monica Macchiarulo (.394/.458/.538) have consistently led GW's offense this spring and sit atop the league standings in batting average.
Sophomore pitcher Sarah Costlow (10-7, 2.51 ERA) leads GW's staff this season and has posted a team-best 1.75 ERA against conference opponents.
George Mason (16-16, 3-5 A-10) continues a seven-game homestand on Wednesday after falling twice to Dayton in last weekend's three-game set. The Patriots opened the Dayton series with a 13-inning victory on a walk-off home run by Jess Midleton.
Mason is led at the plate by McKenzie Jones' .342 average, while Casey Price (.330) and Liz Seymour (.283) are tied with a team-best 21 RBIs this spring. Price is tied with GW's Linn for second in the league with 11 doubles.
In the circle, Marina Vitalich (9-7) sits third in the conference with a 1.97 ERA while holding opposing batters to a .196 average - good for second in the A-10. As a staff, the Patriots rank second with a 2.48 ERA.
A point in the year-long Revolutionary Rivalry is up for grabs on Wednesday. GW has already clinched the Tri-Corner Hat Trophy this season, taking an 11-3 lead into Wednesday with five battles remaining in 2015-16.
Last season the Colonials split a doubleheader with Mason, falling 4-3 in eight innings before triumphing, 3-2, in the nightcap.
Wednesday's doubleheader is slated to begin at 4 p.m. in Fairfax, Virginia, at the George Mason Softball Complex.
