EMMITSBURG, Md. -- Junior Bailey Forcier matched her career high with four points to lift the George Washington lacrosse team to a 9-8 win over Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday afternoon at Waldron Family Stadium.
Forcier notched her first hat trick of the season and added an assist, and she also won a pair of draw controls. Senior Gabbi Hull scored two goals, including the game-winner with less than eight minutes remaining, and senior Olivia Boudreau tallied three points on a goal and two assists and also picked up two ground balls.
Senior Ellie Glasgow recorded a team-high four ground balls, and junior Michaela Lynch had a career-high three caused turnovers.
GW (1-4) got off to a hot start, scoring the first five goals of the game in less than 10 minutes. Senior Hallie Walker put the Colonials on the board early, converting a feed from Forcier just 62 seconds into play. Forcier then followed with two goals sandwiched around one by Boudreau for a 4-0 lead before Lynch capped the surge with GW's fifth goal at the 21:51 mark.
Mount St. Mary's (0-5) battled back, tallying the final four goals of the half, but the Colonials took a 5-4 lead into the break. The Mount's Nicole Snyder knotted the score early in the second half with her second goal of the game before GW scored three in a row for an 8-5 advantage. The Mountaineers then responded with three straight of their own to retie the game at 8-8 with 10:53 remaining.
Hull's second goal of the game, an unassisted marker at the 7:53 mark, put GW back on top, 9-8, and proved to be the game-winner as neither team found the back of the net again.
Sophomore Adele Wise and junior Erin Long split time in goal and combined to make seven saves while allowing a season-low eight goals. Steph Rurkowski stopped six shots between the pipes for Mount St. Mary's.
Kelly Maloney paced the Mount with three goals.
The Colonials outshot the Mountaineers, 20-18, and held a 13-11 edge in ground balls.
GW returns to action on Saturday when Yale visits the GW Lacrosse Field on the Mount Vernon Campus for the home opener at 1 p.m.
