GW Lacrosse Falls at Monmouth, 14-7

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. -- Sophomore Jocelyn Donohue posted her first career hat trick, but the George Washington lacrosse team fell at Monmouth on Saturday morning, 14-7.
Donohue scored three goals and added two draw controls off the bench to lead the Colonials. Junior Michaela Lynch scored a goal and won two draw controls, and junior Bailey Forcier tallied three points on a goal and two assists to go with two draws. Sophomore Amy Cunningham also notched multiple points with a pair of assists.
Monmouth (3-3) scored the first six goals of the game before Donohue converted a feed from Cunningham to put the Colonials on the board with 2:26 remaining in the half. The Hawks tallied the first goal of the second stanza to make it 7-1, but Donohue ignited a 3-1 GW run over a four-minute stretch to pull the Colonials within 8-4. Monmouth responded with three straight goals for an 11-4 lead before GW countered with three of its own to make it 11-7, but the Hawks scored the final three markers of the game.
Sophomore goalkeeper Adele Wise recorded six saves in 40:38 of action between the pipes before giving way to junior Erin Long, who stopped two shots in the final 19:22. Monmouth keeper Caroline Huelster made 12 saves and picked up a game-high five ground balls for the Hawks, who were led offensively by Alexa Smith's five goals and Olivia Higson's four.
The Colonials return to action on Wednesday when they visit Mount St. Mary's at 4 p.m.
