WASHINGTON - The George Washington softball squad concludes a seven-game homestand on Tuesday afternoon as Cornell visits the GW Softball Field on the Mount Vernon Campus for doubleheader action.
The Colonials (14-12) have won their last five games and own a dominant 12-3 record at home. The Buff and Blue opened Atlantic 10 Conference play with a three-game sweep of La Salle over the weekend and sit atop the league standings.
Linn is currently tied for second all-time with 68 career stolen bases, just five away from breaking the record of 72 swipes held by Amanda Zakeri ('13).
Junior Paige Kovalsky has smacked a league-high 11 doubles in 2016, already tying her for eighth on GW's single-season list.
Sophomore Sarah Costlow, reigning A-10 Pitcher of the Week, has been stellar in the circle, posting three wins without allowing a single earned run in 19 innings of work last week. On the season, Costlow (8-5) leads GW with a 2.12 ERA while holding opposing batters to a team-best .258 average.
Cornell (1-11) most recently posted a 1-3 mark in the George Mason-hosted Cherry Blossom Classic March 18-19. The Big Red downed Georgetown, but fell once to Mason and twice to Saint Francis. Meg Parker leads Cornell with a .400 batting average while driving in a team-best 10 runs and scoring nine. Megan Murray (.359), Leanne Iannucci (.333) and Emily Weinberg (.317) have also had solid seasons so far at the plate for Cornell.
Maddie Orcutt owns the Big Red's lone win in the circle, but the three-pitcher staff has a combined 12.76 ERA on the season. Opposing hitters are batting .370 against Cornell.
Last season the Colonials took an 8-7 victory over the Big Red. GW leads the all-time series with Cornell, 4-1-1.
First pitch on Tuesday is slated for 2 p.m. at the GW Softball Field.
